Abstract
Antihistamine is one of the most widely used medications for allergic rhinitis, urticaria and other allergic conditions. However, the prevalence of adverse skin reactions induced by antihistamines are quite low because they can mask the skin lesions. A 43-year-old man experienced generalized urticaria, angioedema, wheezing, dyspnea and hypotension after taking Minoltrochy composed of cetylpyridium and chlorpheniramine for common cold. Skin prick tests with the extracts of cetylpyridium and chlorpheniramine showed a weak positive reaction to chlorpheniramine. Oral challenge tests showed a positive reaction to chlorpheniramine but not to cetylpyridium. Aspirin-intolerant asthma was confirmed by the aspirin oral challenge test. With these results, we confirmed the case of drug allergy to chlorpheniramine in a patient with aspirin-intolerant asthma.
